But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ Philippians 3:20 (NIV)
Everyday there are events and situations in our life that we look ahead to. Some of those might be with dread, such as a visit to the dentists’ office. On the other hand there are those events that we wait for that we eagerly look ahead to anticipating its arrival. Those events and our perception of their onset shape us as they fill our thoughts.
Think about it, as kid you looked forward to the start of summer and the end of school to the point you couldn’t even concentrate on your studies. Your thoughts were filled with all the great things you would do during summer vacation. And yet at the same time if you were like me you dreaded the end of summer because it meant the start of school once again. It was hard to enjoy those last couple of days knowing that the end of fun as you knew was near.
How are you looking ahead? I hope today that you are looking ahead “eagerly anticipating” what God has in store for you. I know that there are days that I get caught up in the business and the weight of lives obstacles. If I’m not careful I’ll start to dread the next day’s arrival. As a follower of Jesus Christ my challenge then is to take the time to refocus my thoughts on where my citizenship really lies and who is coming back for me. When I do that I can do as the Apostle Paul commands later on in Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! (NIV)
